The number of home sales processed through the MLS® Systems of Canadian real estate Boards and Associations edged up 0.7 per cent in October 2014 compared to September.

Housing starts in Quebec were trending at 32,527 units in October, compared to 32,713 units in September, according to Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC). The trend is a six-month moving average of the monthly seasonally adjusted
annual rates (SAAR) of housing starts.

Municipalities issued building permits worth $7.5 billion in September, up 12.7% from August, following a 27.3% decrease the previous month. The increase in September resulted primarily from higher construction intentions for both non-residential and residential buildings in Ontario.

According to the latest forecasts conducted by Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation (CMHC), Quebec housing starts will amount to 38,200 units in 2014, 39,000 units in 2015, and 40,100 units in 2016.

Canadian home sales ease back in September
Boards and Associations fell by 1.4 per cent on a month-over-month basis in September 2014, marking the first monthly decline since January of this year.
Activity was down in about 60 per cent of all local housing markets in September, led by monthly declines in Calgary, Edmonton, Central Toronto, Kitchener-Waterloo, London & St. Thomas, Windsor-Essex, and Ottawa. Home sales rose on a month-over-month basis in Fraser Valley, Vancouver Island, the Okanagan region, Mississauga, Durham and York regions of the Greater Toronto Area, Sherbrooke, and the Northern region of Nova Scotia.
